A Cozy Stay - The View in pigeon forge
We had one of those weekends where the plans just came together. We'd heard there was a Hot Air Balloon Festival over in Townsend, Tennessee — about 30 minutes from the Pigeon Forge strip — and figured, of course, let’s take the kids! Who wouldn't want to take the kids to see that? Around the same time, we were gifted a stay at a cabin called The View in Pigeon Forge, and the timing lined up perfectly.
The short version: The View in Pigeon Forge
If I had to describe this cabin, The View, in one word, it would be cozy. It's a 2-bedroom, 2-bath cabin (both bathrooms are en-suite), log cabin that gives you the cozy mountain vibe you are looking for you when you visit the mountains. It sits less than five minutes from The Parkway in Pigeon Forge.That location ended up being the thing I appreciated most, and I'll get into why below.
Walking through the cabin
You enter the cabin through an open deck with a dining table and a grill — a nice spot to cook out. The front door opens into the living room, and this is where the cabin feel really hits you: a vaulted wood-beam ceiling, large windows, a big fireplace, and a solid wood staircase. It genuinely feels like you're in the mountains when you walk in, which is exactly what I want out of a Smoky Mountain stay.
The living room is open to the dining table, and a small galley kitchen curves around the back. I'll be honest about the kitchen — it's compact. But we don't cook much on shorter trips; we'd rather go out to eat, so for us it was plenty. We mostly used the fridge and the sink. If you're planning a five-plus-night stay and want to cook real meals, it's worth knowing it's on the smaller side.
Off the kitchen is a screened-in back porch with four rocking chairs. That porch was perfect for coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening.
The main floor has a bedroom with a king bed, an en-suite with a shower, and a laundry closet. Off that bedroom is another screened porch — this one with the hot tub. Everyone loves a hot tub in the mountains, and we actually watched a momma bear and her three cubs wander by right outside the porch while we were in it. We always love a good bear sighting, and that one was hard to beat.
Upstairs there's a small reading nook and a second bedroom with a jacuzzi tub in the room, plus an en-suite with a tub/shower combo.
What I look for in a Smoky Mountain stay
Over the years I've figured out what actually makes or breaks a cabin for the way our family travels. Here's my honest checklist, and how The View measured up.
1. Proximity to the activities. We're not great at relaxing. We like to head out for coffee and breakfast, come back to regroup, go explore, come back for naps, then run out again after dinner for ice cream. We're always on the go. For us, staying 30–40 minutes from town doesn't work — a quick ice cream run should take 20 minutes total, not an hour of driving round trip. (If you're someone who likes to settle in at the house and only head out once a day, this may matter far less to you.) The View was just a few minutes from the Parkway, which fit the way we travel perfectly.
2. Easy roads and easy parking. We've stayed at cabins where the roads were so steep or winding you had to do three-point turns just to keep going, or where parking was such a headache you dreaded leaving. A vacation should feel easy. The roads to The View were simple. The driveway is on a hill, but once you're up, the parking pad is flat with room for about three cars.
3. A cabin that actually feels like a cabin. When I'm in the mountains, I want wood and a real cabin feel — not a house that could just as easily sit in a typical Atlanta subdivision. The View delivered on that: wood-beam ceilings, wood walls, and that solid wood staircase. It's a log cabin, and it feels like one.
4. Clean and updated. You know those listings where the bones are great, but the furniture looks tired and you can practically smell it through the photos? Not for me. I have high standards for cleanliness, and this house was clean. The furniture was updated and comfortable, and the living and dining areas felt genuinely inviting.
The internet (a big one for us)
This might not matter to everyone, but it's important for how we travel. We run multiple businesses, we homeschool our kids, and we work while we travel — so on any given trip there are calls, meetings, and schoolwork happening from the cabin. The internet at The View was fast and easy to get on, and we didn't have a single connection issue the whole stay. If you work remotely, that reliability matters more than almost anything.
Who The View in Pigeon Forge it best for
I'd recommend The View for groups that want to be close to the Parkway and want a cozy, cabin-y feel. It's best suited for a group of about four, and there's a pull-out couch in the living room if you need a little extra room.
Our pro tip: We brought our travel crib for our youngest. She and the boys don't sleep well in the same room — she's our little instigator and won't let them settle down — so we set her travel crib up in the upstairs reading nook. It stayed dark enough thanks to the stairwell and surrounding walls, gave the boys their own room, and gave her a quiet spot of her own. Worked out perfectly. We use this travel crib. We LOVE it. After years of regular pack-n-plays, I will NEVER go back after finding this travel crib. It stores and pack so much easier, is so much easier to set up. We love it.
Overall
We really enjoyed our stay at The View. It's cozy, clean, close to everything, and it feels like a real mountain cabin — which is exactly what we're after when we come to the Smokies. If those are the things you care about too, I think you'd be happy here.
